INFORMASI OBJECT WISATA DI JAYAPURA

JAYAPURA

Jayapura is a provincial capital of irian jaya, a bustling city of over 2.163 847 population comprising locals and Transmigrants from other parts of Indonesia. The town has been founded by Dutch in 1910 and was named by hollandia. After irian’s integration into Indonesia it become kota baru, and again changed briefly to sukarnopura before assuming its current name Jayapura. After the world war 2, and development, launched on the island by government, the name of the town changed to be jayapura until today. “Jaya” means victory and “Pura” means fort, so Jayapura was a victory fort.
Papu has been split into two provinces in 1999 West irian with the capital of manokwari, and papua the main province with the capitalof Jayapura. Papu situate in the eastern part of Indonesia, covering an area of 410.000 square km spanning from lowland and swamplands. Around 75% live in rural area and remote area, there are 253 tribe and ethnics, and every tribe has their own language. Generally the language is classified in two major categories, Austronesian and Non Ausronesian. This city is unique with the topography with shapely circling downtown followed by the sea shore line and road up and down the hills slope.

Hamadi Beach

The beach was landing site for allies in the world war II (April 22, 1944) under the commend General Douglas McArthur. 217 War ships and 80.000 men, led by 50,000 American and Australian combat troops landed here in the summer 1944. only in four short months allies had defeated Japanese and conquered all the north coast of irian. After the war end all the vintage tanks and landing craft left behind and now layed rusted along it’s almost 2 km long beachside

Skyline

Situated on hill top, on the main road from jayapura to sentani, stood few meters across the main road in front of jayanti park, is a pura or hindu temple. Further to the right is a vihara or buddhst temple. Enggros and tobati are two traditional villages in yotepa bay underneath. Stilt house and fishermen boats are picturesque from here.

Lake Sentani

The lake is located in sentani district, cover an area of 9.360 ha with the height of 75 m above sea level.and The community characteristic stilt housing at the banks of the lake.the only path to connect each house is by wooden bridge. Sentani tribe who have been settle the island and the surrounding areas hundred years ago, were known for their bright and colorful wood carvings and painting bark cloth. But today only few old men in the village doing wood carving, but we still see their canoes and paddle carve in fish or lizar’s motif, around 75% of local people on the islands area fisherman, the rest 25% work in the government and small private business office in town.


Monument General McArthur

This monument was built on a hill top called ‘Pelway mogho’ by the sentani people and popular with the name ifar gunung it is a historical value as a symbol and testament to the mighty of American at Allied forces under the commend of General McArthur

Pepera monument

This monument was built to commemorate the declaration of the act free choice in 1969. in Indonesian language they use the acronym PEPERA when referring to this. The plebiscite was hold 6 years after the United Nation had passed irian jaya / now papua over to Indonesian control in APO. The first allied army post, 500 m from the center of papua.

The loka budaya museum of Cendrawasih university has a good of collection 1.885 cultural materials for all regencies in papua which consist of:

Yotefa Bay

This Bay stand three village called Enggros, Tobati, and Nafri. Traditional live and old customs are still alive. There are variety customs which you can observe for example the inauguration of village head, titled house, rowing races and traditional ance.








Wamena

Jayawijay regency with the capital wamena, situated in the interior of papua island, exactly lies in a marvelous valley called Baliem valley, stretches some 80 km from one to another end. The maximum width is less than 20 km. surround by a forest clad mountains, it is patch work of well kept gardents, irrigations, channels, terrace mountain slopes and ‘honay’ tipical local houses, almost totally isolated from the rest of the world save from reliable air link with jayapura, the provincial capital. Dani tribe is the native of baliem valley who are popular as skilled farmer the stone, axe, scraper, knife of animal bone, bamboo spear and digger stick are the basic tools of them.

Killing Pig Attraction

This attraction presented to show how to hunt and kill pig with bow and arrow. After killing, the pig will be tied and prepared to cook in their style in earth oven on the heated stones called SNIHELEP.

Traditional house

The traditional house in wamena, the round shaped housings with coarse grass roofs, wooden walls without windows called honay by wamena people.

Baliem river hanging bridge

This bridge was formerly built by the local people in traditional style to pass Baliem River. Now it is changed from rattan to steel wire, it is 90 m long, located in wesaput 2km from wamena town.
